…reviewing the biggest collection of woodworking plans on the web

Woodworking4Home Review – Is It The Real Deal?

March 18th, 2010 · Reviews

One of the things I really like about woodworking is the end result. The feeling of building something with your own two hands is very special. You really feel a sense of accomplishment and satisfaction.

I have been indulging in the hobby of fine woodworking for more than 5 years now. I started off building small wooden boxes and then slowly progress to making bunk beds and my last project was a medium size storage shed for my backyard.

Although woodworking is a very relaxing and rewarding hobby, finding a good woodworking blueprint can be a challenge.

For my previous wood projects, I got most of the plans for reference books and magazines. Some were good but some were outright useless.

The worst of the bunch are the free plans on the internet. The diagrams are not very clear and the instructions…well I doubt anyone could understand it.

I had the experience of having to use a magnifying glass to look at the joints details on some of the plans. It is fair to say, that is not something I like to do.

Recently, a fellow woodworking hobbyist friend of mine told me about a web site that has a very large collection of woodworking plans. The site was www.woodworking4home.com.

I wanted to start a new project to make a custom door for my bed room. I wanted the door to be heavy and sturdy using rustic English design. I know locating the working plans will be tough. Nonetheless, I thought of trying my luck at the Woodworking4Home web site.

Huge Woodworking Blueprints Library

The first thing that caught my attention when I visited the web site is the collection of woodworking plans offered. They have more than 14,000 plans!

Some of the carpentry books and magazines I’ve bought do not even have 10 plans in them. I am truly impressed with their collection.

It took me about 5 minutes to read the message on the web site. But when I saw they have a special section just for door plans, I was sold. That’s exactly what I wanted.

I did a quick review of the Woodworking4home offer and notice it is only $49. Not bad for 14,000 plans, don’t you think so?

With that many plans, I can actually cancel my subscription on my monthly carpentry magazines. What I wanted are the articles on the woodworking projects anyway.

What will be the outcome of my new wooden door project? I will write about it when it’s done.
